Healthy Communities Initiative
This initiative was created to provide key community based medical facilities throughout the U.S. with access to affordable, digital X-ray equipment and medical expertise. Inner cities and rural areas have gaps in their healthcare infrastructure similar to the developing world. These gaps lead to disparate health outcomes for low-income, immigrant and minority populations. They also increase the overall cost of healthcare delivery as untreated/inadequately treated medical conditions worsen and become more expensive to treat later on.
Community health centers (CHCs) play a vital role in these medically underserved areas by providing a medical home for low-income patients. They offer high quality, affordable primary and preventive health care while improving access to care for patients regardless of their ability to pay. This cost effective, community- based care reduces the need for more expensive emergency room, hospital-based and specialty care, saving taxpayers billions of dollars annually.
