WHITIA Health Station
Better Health Care Access for All
There are major disparities in both access to preventative care and health outcomes for minority and low-income populations. Considerable disparities also exist in the incidence and prevalence of chronic conditions and how these conditions are managed within these populations. The WHITIA Health Station is an innovative, low-cost way to give underserved populations access to free tools to help them to improve their health, monitor diseases and enable collaborative care for themselves and their families. Health Station features:
- Free full-service live remote help via multi-lingual avatars
- Free screenings and monitoring for weight, blood pressure, heart rate, vision, etc.
- Free physician locator, appointment scheduling and printed directions
- Free tools to help find and buy health insurance
- Free secure internet personal health record to capture, store and share data
Health Station Impact
Access to care is limited. Nearly one-third of Americans use emergency rooms as their source of primary care because they do not have a primary care doctor. By locating Health Stations within retail pharmacies and supermarkets throughout the U.S., WHITIA will be:
- Expanding access to care by placing vital services within 5 miles of most Americans
- Improving ‘self-care’ by giving consumers free tools to ‘track and act’ on their health status
- Enabling collaborative care by giving consumers a personal health record that they control and can share with any provider
- Reducing the cost of care by helping to ease the burden of inappropriate emergency room visits
